How to run SharePoint Designer 2013 or 2010 as different user

When troubleshooting or developing on SharePoint, sometimes we need to test or runĀ as a different user.

Unfortunately running as different user is not a straight forward task for SharePoint designer. When you right click on the shortcut from the start menu there is no option to Run as different user.

Workaround:

Option 1

1- Depending on your installation go to

For SharePoint 2015
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15

For SharePoint 2010
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14

2 – Press and hold the Shift key, right-click Spedesign.exe, and then click Run as different user.

3 -Type the credential of the user and then click OK

Option 2
Login to windows with different credentials.

Option 3
Set Windows to ask credentials every time you run as Administrator. This way you can run any application as different user.
